Nemo and the Polite Fan
It can be tough playing in a band, especially when you’re trying to survive in a city where all music is banned. Due to these circumstances, you find yourself performing in some odd locations.
At one show we did in an abattoir, we arrived to find a really hostile crowd waiting for us. The band that played before us had not performed well, and the audience was in no mood for a repeat performance. We took to the stage, and to our surprise, the reaction was favourable to our songs. It was a great relief when we finished our set and the crowd roared for more.
As I packed up my bass guitar, a young woman approached me and held out her hand to reveal a large, bright red tomato. She then said, “This is for you.”
I was confused for a moment before taking it from her. “Thanks,” I replied.
She then added, “I was saving it to throw at you, but you guys didn’t suck.”
Yep, it can be rough playing in a band!
