Billy Asbo and Cheap Guitars

You know, it’s not always wise to buy the cheapest guitar you can find. I made that mistake with the first guitar I ever bought. I was about 14, practicing in my bedroom with my newly acquired six-string wonder, when disaster struck.

I stood up to play along to my favourite song and began jumping around the room, caught up in the thrill of the moment. That’s when the bottom strap button fell off my guitar.

The body of the guitar tried to fall to the floor, but the top strap button was still attached to the strap and acted as a pivot point.

Before I knew what was happening, the neck of the guitar swung up, and the headstock smashed into the left side of my face so hard that I was knocked out cold.

The resulting black eye was a harsh lesson on the perils of budget musical equipment. So, next time you buy a new guitar, remember that going cheap can be hazardous to your health.
